Why I Started Munchy Munchkins

MUNCHY MUNCHKINS | READING TIME : 2 MIN

There are so many reasons why Munchy Munchkins came to life, but here are the biggest ones that guided me in this direction.

My Own Experience as a Mum of Four

As a mum of four—two boys in Year 4 and Year 2, plus twin girls in Kindy—lunchbox packing is a huge part of my life. And honestly? I’ve always found it overwhelming.

Walking into the grocery store, trying to figure out the best snacks that I feel good about giving my kids, can be exhausting. Reading food labels constantly? That drives me nuts. I want my kids to enjoy all kinds of food without guilt, but at the same time, I try to limit ultra-processed foods as much as possible.

We live in a fairly low-tox home, and I aim to follow an 80/20 approach when it comes to products and food—focusing on balance, not perfection. My kids still get treats, and we’re not about restriction, but I do my best to keep things in moderation.

My Son’s Health Journey

A huge motivator for me starting this business was my second son, Jude, who struggled with stomach health issues for years. It took a long time to get the right diagnosis and treatment, but we finally got there.

Jude had a form of chronic gastritis, and we found that ultra-processed foods, refined ingredients, and pro-inflammatory oils (like sunflower, canola, and palm) made his symptoms so much worse. That’s why I avoid using these oils at home and in Munchy Munchkins products. I know first-hand how much of a difference it makes to have nourishing, simple foods that are gentle on little tummies.

Helping Other Busy Families

I get it—so many families want to bake or prep wholesome snacks, but life is busy. And that’s where Munchy Munchkins comes in.

I’m not here to create unrealistic, Pinterest-perfect lunchboxes. My goal is to provide simple, homemade-style food that kids actually love—without all the hidden nasties. Because when kids have wholesome, satisfying options, they stay fuller for longer. And fuller kids? That means better focus, more energy, and happier little munchkins.

At the end of the day, Munchy Munchkins is about making lunchbox prep easier, so you can feel confident knowing your kids have nourishing, delicious food—without the stress.
